A Big Congratulations to our
Award Winners!
|
We would like to extend a big congratulations to the the winners of the CACLC's Bishop A.J. Quinn Memorial Award and the Faithful Servant Award. The purpose of these awards are to recognize two people in Lorain County that have shown a sincere commitment to social justice, the poor and marginalized, and the Catholic Action Commission.
Bishop A.J. Quinn Memorial Award: Deacon Lou Maldonado Director, St. Joseph Homeless Shelter Deacon, Sacred Heart Chapel
Faithful Servant Award: Diane Vreuls Friebert Retired Professor Parishioner, Sacred Heart ,Oberlin

Solidarity - $10 donation
Dignity - $50 donation
Peace - $125 donation
Justice - $250 donation

Celebrate Your Parish's Work for the Poor and Marginalized

We want to celebrate all the good charity and justice work each parish in Lorain County has done at our 25th Annual Peace & Justice Dinner and Celebration!

A lay representative is appointed by the Pastor to attend a monthly meeting of the Oberlin Area Cooperating Ministries (OACM). The OACM sponsors a multi-faith Thanksgiving service, Weekly Lenten services, and the Summer Peace Camp for Kids among other programs. Volunteers may occasionally substitute for the respresentative at meetings and help with events.

The Peace and Justice Committee is a diverse group of parishioners who support each other's leadership in projects based on the bvrpoad spectrum of Catholic Social Teaching. The specifically address issues such as hunger, homelessness, capital punishment, and immigration. This committee works with other churches and community groups and with the Lorain County Catholic Action Committee. Meetings for this committee are held monthly. Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) |
As a part of Lorain County's IHN, Sacred Heart provides homeless families with overnight lodging and meals. Our parish utilizes the Education Building to provide this service for a one-week period, four times per year. Parishioners are asked to sign up to do any of the following:
-Prepare the Education Building for guests; -bring in meals; -host the dinners, or the evening activity period; -stay overnight; -take-down the facitlity at the end of the week; -do laundry for the parish's linens/towels and the like.
Volunteers who will be in contact with the guests are provided training. All volunteers in contact with the guests are required to undergo a background check.

A Christmas tree is prepared with gift tags for residents of Welcome Nursing Home and parish shut-ins. Parishioners take a tag and purchase and wrap the desired gift. The gifts are then delivered by the program coordinator and volunteers.
